Principal Online Programmer

Online Programming is responsible for building and maintaining the networked systems and backend infrastructure that enable connected gameplay features, including multiplayer functionality and live online services. This role designs, implements, and debugs robust and scalable online features on both client and server, supporting game production with asynchronous and real-time networking capabilities. It ensures the performance, reliability, and maintainability of online components by optimising code, resolving technical issues, and contributing to continuous improvements in deployment and operations. Online Programmers support development workflows related to online systems integration, feature implementation, and live service updates, while collaborating closely with gameplay programmers, designers, producers, and cross-functional technical teams to align online features with broader game development objectives.

Salary

£70k

  • Extensive experience writing C/C++ in medium to large scale projects
  • Strong understanding of multi-threaded programming
  • Extensive experience programming network features and systems, client/server functionalities
  • Experience profiling and optimising (network, CPU and memory)
  • Extensive experience with RESTful services, distributed systems, SQL, and NoSQL databases
  • Knowledge in networking with an understanding of latency and bandwidth
  • Experience with multi-platform development, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation
  • Experience in Voice over IP communications, cryptography and information security
