The Games Insights Database (GIDB) is a new, free platform designed to map and explain the UK games industry using robust, previously uncompiled data. Funded by the BFI and National Lottery and developed by sector experts, it brings together insights on skills, salaries, jobs, funding, and workforce trends to support better decision-making across the industry.

Created in partnership with Games Jobs Live, Into Games, and Birds Eye View, GIDB is aimed at developers, studios, educators, and policymakers alike. The current early-access version focuses on two core tools. The Workforce Data Hub provides a real-time view of the UK games sector by region, including studio presence, workforce size, job and company growth, and creative output - helping users understand local ecosystems and identify opportunities for growth.

Meanwhile, the Jobs Framework maps every single major games sector role across disciplines such as art, design, code, and production, outlining required skills, salary benchmarks, and clear progression pathways from junior to senior levels. This supports career planning, hiring, and training development from college education through to AAA workforce planning.

Built from five years of historical jobs and salary data as well as public data from the most robust sources available - scraped, analysed, and manually verified by sector experts - GIDB offers a credible, comprehensive picture of the UK games workforce ahead of its full launch in July.
