Principal Systems Designer
Systems Design focuses on creating and maintaining the foundational gameplay systems that support long-term engagement, player progression, and core mechanics. This role involves designing and implementing systemic features such as rewards, progression structures, economies, and abilities through detailed documentation, prototyping, and scripting. It supports workflows involving iteration, playtesting, data analysis, and balance tuning to ensure systems are functional, engaging, and aligned with player motivations. The role contributes to content and tool pipelines by modeling, testing, and refining systems within technical constraints. It requires close collaboration with teams across engineering, animation, UI/UX, production, and other design disciplines to ensure systems are well-integrated, accessible, and aligned with overall gameplay goals.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming
- High understanding of complex math
- Strong technical skills, with experience with visual scripting languages and/or industry standard toolsets (Unity, Unreal, etc.)
- Expertise with MS Office, specifically Excel
- Hands on expertise with visual scripting tools such as Kismet, Blueprint, or their equivalents
- Exceptional ability to conceptualise, pitch, and implement game systems/features using various tools, technology, and visual language
- Ability to develop and communicate complex systems on Core, Meta and Social layers
- Understand the basics of all important game systems and their dependencies
- Very strong understanding of system interactions, consequences of specific implementation and scalability of systems
- Understanding of mathematical modelling in game design and what the numbers mean in practice
- Ability to combine quantitative in-game data and qualitative player feedback to form a complete picture of player behaviour and motivations
